Now there are several things that you need to have in order to be a matatu driver in Kenya. This includes a Valid Driving license, A PSV badge, and 24 years of age and above. Qualification For One To Be A Matatu Driver In Kenya

A driver authorized to drive Class E vehicles should apply for Class J (Now D1) Matatu endorsement, and a driver authorized to drive Class B, C and E vehicles should apply for Class A  (D2 now) endorsement. Class J (D1 now) is for all PSV vehicles not exceeding a seating capacity of 24 persons, and Class A is for any PSV vehicle. A duly filled and signed Form XVI. The form is now available online on the PSV Portal or the Sacco Portal The Form is to be forwarded to the Traffic Police Department for certification. A fee of Kenya Shillings 650 is charged by the Police department, and the receipt should be surrendered to the Road Transport Department.

  • A certificate of Good Conduct obtained from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID)
